We’re hugely proud of the work we do to help develop and manage the reputations of towns and cities across the UK and Europe. As such, it was a great pleasure to see two of our clients, Leipzig and Paisley in Scotland, winning big at this year’s Academy of Urbanism awards ceremony.
The Urbanism Awards are the Academy’s primary platform for recognising the best, most enduring or most improved urban environments. The panel named Leipzig ‘European City of the Year 2019’, while Paisley became the first Scottish destination to be named ‘Best Town in the UK and Ireland’.
Over the past 12 months we’ve undertaken a strategic press trip programme focusing on Leipzig’s unique architecture, culture and design elements. Publications hosted by AM+A include The Independent, Rough Guides and UNILAD Adventure, whose Facebook video about the destination has received over 1 million views.
Earlier this year we were delighted that our work on the Paisley UK City of Culture 2021 campaign helped Renfrewshire Council pick up the CIPR Excellence award for ‘Arts, Culture or Sport Campaign 2018’. Our own efforts on the bid led to the agency picking up the PRCA DARE 'Campaign Challenges' award.
During our work on the Paisley 2021 bid AM+A secured global coverage in national and international publications including BBC Culture, The New York Times, The Financial Times, The Guardian, De Telegraaf, The Irish Independent and Chinese Weekly.
We also helped secure A-list celebrity endorsement by working with actor Gerard Butler’s publicity team, as well as amplifying social media conversation by seeding videos to online publications including The Guardian and BBC News.
The Paisley brand garnered 212,701,160 impressions from 2,483 pieces of coverage. They transformed from underdogs to odds-on favourites with Ladbrokes in the days leading up to the announcement. Visitors to the area rose by 25% in 2016 with 1.7 million visitors.
