Travel Trend 2016: #21 Responsible Tourism

With ecotourism and sustainable travel being at the forefront of the industry, many destinations are in search of ways to participate in responsible tourism, making this one of the key trends for 2016. According to the World Travel Market, more than eight in ten senior industry professionals say the environment is important to their organisation.

Ljubljana is one of Europe’s ‘greenest’ capitals, with almost 75% of its surface covered with green areas.  The city has been awarded as the European Green Capital 2016 and is set to create a buzz around the city’s excellently preserved green spaces and the countless hidden gardens in the heart of the city centre.

Already known for the beautiful architecture of Jože Plečnik, the laid-back, friendly approach of the locals and authentic Slovenian cuisine accompanies the city’s sustainable approach to everything from reducing traffic through increased pedestrianisation to the preservation of important green landmarks such as one of Europe’s oldest botanical gardens.
